This morning, Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the hardest thing she’d have to do. This afternoon, her planet was invaded.
The year is 2575, and two rival megacorporations are at war over a planet that’s little more than an ice-covered speck at the edge of the universe. Too bad nobody thought to warn the people living on it. With enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra—who are barely even talking to each other—are forced to fight their way onto an evacuating fleet, with an enemy warship in hot pursuit.
But their problems are just getting started. A deadly plague has broken out and is mutating, with terrifying results; the fleet’s AI, which should be protecting them, may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge will say what’s really going on. As Kady hacks into a tangled web of data to find the truth, it’s clear only one person can help her bring it all to light: the ex-boyfriend she swore she’d never speak to again.

BRIEFING NOTE: Told through a fascinating dossier of hacked documents—including emails, schematics, military files, IMs, medical reports, interviews, and more—Illuminae is the first book in a heart-stopping, high-octane trilogy about lives interrupted, the price of truth, and the courage of everyday heroes.

Where do I start…jeez. Did I like this book – Yes! Will I read the next in the series – Yes! Do I actually have time to do that – No!😂 I finished this book two months ago and I still haven’t had time to pick up Gemina buut Illuminae was such a fantastic and spectacular ride that I need to finally share it.
First of all this book – visually – is unique.

The story is told in a series of files, chats, emails, interview transcripts and more, and makes you feel like a total detective , trying to figure out what the hell is happening and why is it happening.
The story starts with the regular relationship problems between a guy and a girl and three seconds later their planet is blown up….yep.
They both manage to get on evacuation ships but unfortunately the vessel that attacked them in the first place is now following them.  Oh and there’s a zombie-like virus spreading among the people, mutating them and causing them to murder everyone. If you’re not interested yet should I tell you about the mad AI that you can’t help but love. Yes the AI – Aiden –  who is supposed to help these people is suddenly not so helpful but rather becomes another threat. I would still die for him though…

I see some people have not liked the format but to me that was one of the unique things about the book and after a few pages you do get used to it. I have also heard that the audiobook is amazing so you might want to try that too.
The relationship between Kady and Ezra was relatable and super cute (and somewhat cheesy). Ezra was sort of annoying at some points and super cute at others, I didn’t know how to feel about him in the beginning but at the end I took a liking to him. Kady is honestly so freaking smart for her age, it made me feel like I really need to sit down and study and just be productive. And of course there’s AIDEN who is one of those villains you just can’t hate.
All the characters where immensely intricate, well written and sooo sarcastic (like soooo much sarcasm I loved it). I now see that all of Jay Kristoffs books have an amazing amount of it.
The more intense scenes where so so emotional, it leaves you a crippling mess on the floor. Going through 20 emotions in the span of a minute. Honestly this book is one of those which remind me why I love reading so so much.
(This book also made me really want to watch every movie about space/advanced technology.)

10/10 would recommend!!!

Harry Potter Tag ⚡

Time for another tag!!

My schedule had been horribly busy so I still haven’t finished the next book I wish to review 😢 so why not do a tag to compensate for how dry this blog has been 🤣!

I combined two tags: one I found in howlinglibraries ‘s blog and one from jennyinneverland ‘s blog. Please go check them out when you can 😊

Now on to the tag…

1. What house are you in?

Slytherin 🐍

2. What is your Patronus?

A white wolf (A little note: I was not given this patronus on Pottermore , but this animal has been my favorite since I remember myself so I strongly believe that it would in fact be my patronus)

3. What is your wand?

Spruce wood with a Unicorn hair core 12 ¼” and Surprisingly Swishy flexibility

4. What would your boggart be?

I have thought about this for a loong time but I still can’t really think of anything

5. What position would you play in Quiddich?

I am absolutely horrible at sports so I would just be cheering from the side 😭 (Though I would like to be a seeker)

6. Would you be a pure-blood, half-blood or muggle born?

Half-blood probably based on the fact that my mother is also a huge fan of harry Potter while my dad isn’t really into it. (My brother is also a fan)

7. Favorite book?

I am torn between The Prisoner Of Azkaban and The Half-Blood Prince…honestly..both

8. Last favorite book?

I feel like reading the books after watching the movies has definitely made me appreciate the book a lot more 😆 so.. I can’t really choose.

9. Favorite movie?

The Half-Blood Prince again.

10. Least favorite movie?

The Deathly Hallows part 1…I dunno, it was just kinda boring for me. Still watched it a hundred times though.

11. Favorite quote?

“Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light” ( I actually got this quote as my first tattoo 😊)

12. Favorite Weasley?

The twiiiins. You know the fun starts when they appear.

13. Favorite female character?

McGonagall of course. She reminded me of one of my high school teachers who ,just like her, can be both a strict teacher and a mother figure.

14. Favorite villain?

I feel like saying Voldemort would be boring so I’ll go wiiith…Lucius Malfoy.

15. Favorite male character?

Hagrid ❤

16. Favorite professor?

Definitely Remus Lupin. I don’t think I need to explain why…he was a character a have utmost respect for.

Would you rathers:

1. Wash Snape’s hair, or spend a day listening to Lockhart rant about himself?

Will Snape be compliant? 😆 Yep still Snape.

2. Duel an elated Bellatrix, or an angry Molly?

Bellatrix. I just want to kick her ass. (Not that I can but still)

3. Travel to Hogwarts via Hogwarts Express or a flying car?

Hogwarts Express!!!

6. Richard Harris or Michael Gambon as Dumbledore?

Michael Gambon.

And some more:

1. If you could remake any of the Potter movies, which would it be?

The first one probably. I wish there were juust a little bit more scenes left.

2. Which house was your first gut feeling you’d be a part of?

At first , like a lot of people, I wanted to be a Gryffindor, but after the countless accounts I made on Pottermore and the countless times I got sorted into Slytherin i just said welp okay then. But now I have learned to love my house and realized that I totally belong here. Wouldn’t change it for the world!

3. Which house were you actually sorted into on Pottermore?

Slytherin every time.

4. Which class would be your favorite?

Care of magical creatures 🐉

5. Which spell do you think would be most useful to learn?

Accio because I’m lazy as hell.

6. Which character do you think you’d instantly become best friends with?

Invisibility cloak.

8. Favorite marauder?

Sirius Black

9. If you could bring one character back to life, which would it be?

Too many human characters on my mind so I’m gonna say Hedwig

10. Hallows or horcruxes?

11. What job would you want to have after leaving Hogwarts?

Something to do with magical creatures

12. Your top thing (person or event) which wasn’t included in the movie that annoyed you the most?

Everything that had to do with the marauders

Author: Jay Kristoff

Rating: *****/5

Assassin Mia Corvere has found her place among the Blades of Our Lady of Blessed Murder, but many in the Red Church ministry think she’s far from earned it. Plying her bloody trade in a backwater of the Republic, she’s no closer to ending Consul Scaeva and Cardinal Duomo, or avenging her familia. And after a deadly confrontation with an old enemy, Mia begins to suspect the motives of the Red Church itself.
When it’s announced that Scaeva and Duomo will be making a rare public appearance at the conclusion of the grand games in Godsgrave, Mia defies the Church and sells herself to a gladiatorial collegium for a chance to finally end them. Upon the sands of the arena, Mia finds new allies, bitter rivals, and more questions about her strange affinity for the shadows. But as conspiracies unfold within the collegium walls, and the body count rises, Mia will be forced to choose between loyalty and revenge, and uncover a secret that could change the very face of her world.

I will try to review this book with as little spoilers as I can!
Damn…where do I start. I just wanna say…Jay Kristoff is my new favorite author.
The first book was amazing. The second book is magnificent.
Godsgrave is by far the most entertaining, well written sequel. Seriously. Not only did it keep the plot going outstandingly well, it answered questions and made place for so many new ones to develop, it kept true to the nature of the first book by being super entertaining and…and…damn did I enjoy it. This story , those situations, those fight scene legitimately made my adrenaline go nuts. Godsgrave keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout the entire story and leaves you entirely cliffhanging at the end of the book (that cliffhanger tho…).
Mia is such a complex antihero and I absolutely love her. In this book she becomes even more badass and even more sassy. The new characters did not disappoint either (neither did the old ones *wink*wink*).
Again the world building and the descriptions of places make you realize how much time the author spent building them in his mind. The foot notes as well. I’ve seen people complain about them but I actually quite enjoy them. Like “here’s an almost page long foot note about the history of some random event to distract you from the hell that’s happening in the current scene”. Loved them honestly.
The writing style of mister Kristoff is fascinating. Sometimes it almost feels as if he’s there telling you the story himself.  He writes each scene so well , especially the fight scenes, and always manages to put a plot twist like…everywhere. It took me days to pull myself together after that ending. Hands down this is my new favorite series.
Honestly there is so many more things I can say about this book but I’m just gonna finish this by saying – I was blown away. And now the wait for the next book continues…

Also just wanted to say how big of a fan I am to the artist who creates the front covers of the books. You can find him on Instagram: @kerbyrosanes and check out the other AMAZING art he does.

Sky In The Deep

Sky in the Deep

Author: Adrienne Young
Genre: Ya Fantasy, Romance
Category: Stand-alone Novel
Number of pages: 340

Started:23/12/2018 – Finished:24/12/2018

Description (Goodreads):
Raised to be a warrior, seventeen-year-old Eelyn fights alongside her Aska clansmen in an ancient rivalry against the Riki clan. Her life is brutal but simple: fight and survive. Until the day she sees the impossible on the battlefield—her brother, fighting with the enemy—the brother she watched die five years ago.
Faced with her brother’s betrayal, she must survive the winter in the mountains with the Riki, in a village where every neighbor is an enemy, every battle scar possibly one she delivered. But when the Riki village is raided by a ruthless clan thought to be a legend, Eelyn is even more desperate to get back to her beloved family.
She is given no choice but to trust Fiske, her brother’s friend, who sees her as a threat. They must do the impossible: unite the clans to fight together, or risk being slaughtered one by one. Driven by a love for her clan and her growing love for Fiske, Eelyn must confront her own definition of loyalty and family while daring to put her faith in the people she’s spent her life hating.

Vikings!! From the moment I saw the cover I was already in love. From the first scene I was sure I would like the book. It was the perfect novel for me to pick up after almost a month in which I hadn’t read anything.
This book sure was an emotional rollercoaster. I connected a little too much with the heroine (and I loved it). I felt every single emotion she did. I loved the character development in her. Despite what she was taught, she realizes that her clan and her enemy’s one might not be as different as she thinks.
The plot felt original and super entertaining. The writing was amazing, I can’t wait for the authors future works. Her descriptions and the world building were fascinating.  I can’t tell you how good it felt reading this book.
The enemies-to-lovers trope is my absolute guilty pleasure.
I did have a few issues with how fast-paced both the plot and the final battle were. The relationship between Eelyn and Fiske didn’t really have a lot of time to develop, and yet in the end they were so in love. I honestly think this could have been a great trilogy. Even so the plot kept me hooked enough for me to finish the book in two days 😆 and I had fun reading it.

Siege And Storm

Siege And Storm

Author: Leigh Bardugo
Genre: Fantasy, Romance, YA
Category: Trilogy [Book 2]
Number of pages: 435

Started: 20/10/2018 – Finished: 18/11/2018
Rating: ****½/5

Description (Goodreads):
Hunted across the True Sea, haunted by the lives she took on the Fold, Alina must try to make a life with Mal in an unfamiliar land. She finds starting new is not easy while keeping her identity as the Sun Summoner a secret. She can’t outrun her past or her destiny for long.

The Darkling has emerged from the Shadow Fold with a terrifying new power and a dangerous plan that will test the very boundaries of the natural world. With the help of a notorious privateer, Alina returns to the country she abandoned, determined to fight the forces gathering against Ravka. But as her power grows, Alina slips deeper into the Darkling’s game of forbidden magic, and farther away from Mal. Somehow, she will have to choose between her country, her power, and the love she always thought would guide her–or risk losing everything to the oncoming storm.

I just want to say that it took me this long to read it not because I didn’t like it, but because I didn’t have time (😭).
I must admit that no matter how bad the Darkling is, I just can’t help but want him to be with Alina. I really love his character and I’m super excited to find out more about his story in the next book.
Mal on the other hand…remember how I said “I don’t know why Mal gets so much hate” in my last review? Well now I know. Aand I must say I’m not so fond of him anymore. Their relationship felt so pushed in this book and the entire time I was screaming “Just dump him Alina!”.
The new characters that were introduces are all super interesting. Nikolai quickly became a new favorite the moment he made his first appearance. And also he’s a pirate/inventor so even better.
I loved the little steampunk that was added in this book. (Also there’s a sea dragon!……which gets killed but anyway)

There weren’t many new locations, mostly it’s just Os Alta again which means there isn’t much world building.
Overall the book felt kinda slow moving, mostly it’s just Alina being paraded around, and then at the end some more interesting things happen. But it still managed to keep me hooked and wanting to read more. Though I think I liked the first book more.
Leigh Bardugo’s writing style has definitely improved in this book  so I imagine the third one to be even better.
I’m quite happy with this series , so I will try to start Ruin and Rising soon!

Book Tag!!📚

Hello there Traveler!
Recently I’ve been so busy with university that I barely have any time to read..so my next review might take a little longer to be released
I found a very interesting blog which listed a bunch of book tags and I thought — Oh that might be a fun thing to do, so that’s what I’m doing today!
I totally recommend you go to Beatrice’s Blog! She has some amazing book reviews and recommendations that are totally worth checking out.

The book tag is called:

Zombie Apocalypse Book Tag

To do the tag you need 5 books! After you grab them open each book to a random page (do this two times for each book) and the first characters name you see gets to be on your zombie survival team. Now that you have all the names, you need to put them in the following 10 situations.
(I chose to add some gifs just like she did because it makes everything even more dramatic 👌)
This tag was super fun to do and I would really enjoy reading your versions of it as well!

Well first off here are the books I picked (some of my favorites):

Nevernight, Empire of Storms, Shadow and Bone, City of Bones, War Storm

And here is the team…
The Mortal Instruments: City Of Bones

1. The first person to die: Jace
Well….that’s a horrible waste of a good warrior…sorry Jace

2. The person you trip to get away from the zombies: Valentine
I mean..I’m not even gonna apologize..oops

Throne of Glass

3. The first person to turn into a zombie: Dorian
( I would probably just let him eat me, I ain’t killing him)
giphy (1)

4. The person that trips YOU to get away from the zombies: Rowan
…my feelings are hurt

Red Queen Series: War Storm

5. The idiot of the team: Farley
Literally the last person to be the idiot would be Farley but okay
giphy (2).gif

6. The “brains” of the team: Maven
Oh god..this could go very well or very wrong, there is no in between

tenor (1).gif

Shadow And Bone

7. The team’s medic: Zoya
Well that was unexpected, I would imagine she would prefer to slice someone rather than heal them. Still a very good team member I guess.

8. The weapons expert: Baghra
Interesting…her weapon is darkness so it’s interesting to see how she would protects us from the zombies with that
giphy (3).gif

9. The brawler: Mia
Yeeeees , you go girl. This one might be the most accurate

10. The Team Captain: Spiderkiller
Oooh damn, those zombies gonna die
giphy (4).gif

Weeell that’s an interesting team 😂
Please join in on the fun and do this tag yourself. Make sure to send me the results so we can all have fun together! ❤

Saying goodbye to a series ❤

Ahhh the time has come for another great series to end.

frontcover throne glass
I discovered Throne of glass on a complete accident. I remember seeing the book on a random shelf in the library and absolutely loving the front cover. After reading the back I decided that I must read it.
Well it had been a while since I liked a book this much..
The series has been a part of my life for 4 years now, I have met amazing people because of it and I had the best time reading it. Saying goodbye to it feels like saying goodbye to an old and very dear friend.
The world, the characters, their friendships will always stay in my heart. I still can’t believe that it is over. I have no words for how much I loved the last book. How much I cried knowing I never get to read about these character’s adventures again.
Thank you so much to Sarah J. Maas for bringing these characters to life and letting me experience this journey with them. There are no words that can express how much I love this series ❤❤

For those who have not read the series – you are missing a lot; pick up the books as soon as you can!

Shadow And Bone

Shadow And Bone

Author: Leigh Bardugo
Genre: Fantasy, Romance, YA
Category: Trilogy [Book 1]
Number of pages: 358

Started: 13/10/2018 – Finished 15/10/2018
Rating: ****½/5

Description (Goodreads):
Surrounded by enemies, the once-great nation of Ravka has been torn in two by the Shadow Fold, a swath of near impenetrable darkness crawling with monsters who feast on human flesh. Now its fate may rest on the shoulders of one lonely refugee.

Alina Starkov has never been good at anything. But when her regiment is attacked on the Fold and her best friend is brutally injured, Alina reveals a dormant power that saves his life—a power that could be the key to setting her war-ravaged country free. Wrenched from everything she knows, Alina is whisked away to the royal court to be trained as a member of the Grisha, the magical elite led by the mysterious Darkling.
Yet nothing in this lavish world is what it seems. With darkness looming and an entire kingdom depending on her untamed power, Alina will have to confront the secrets of the Grisha . . . and the secrets of her heart.

I have seen this book recommended by so many people so I finally decided to read it and I truly enjoyed it.
The story is entertaining and amusing. I got so invested in it that I read it in 2-3 days. And now I can’t wait to read the next one.
The magic, the Russian folklore and mythology, the love create a story that threw me into a journey. While I did have an issue with how the world felt a little unfinished, I very much adored the book.

The main characters ,Alina and Mal, are two orphans who grew up together in a duke’s estate until they had to leave to serve their country. Mal becomes a military tracker while Alina is a cartographer.
When they were kids they were tested by the Grisha – an order of powerful people with magical abilities – to see if they were also gifted. At that time both of them had failed the test so neither believed they would be apart of the Grisha. That is until their regiment has to cross the rift of darkness called the Unsea that separates their country in half. While in said rift they are attacked by horrible creatures that almost eat them. Just before the monsters have reached them Alina manages to , unknowingly, get rid of them with a power she didn’t know she had.
After discovering her powers the Darkling – the leader of the Grisha – orders for her to be trained as one of them in the king’s palace. From that moment on Alina is considered the most important person in the kingdom as the Darkling believes she is the key to destroying the Unsea that has caused the death of many. In her journey she not only has to learn to accept who she really is but to learn who to trust and who to not.

I really liked each characters personality. Alina is a girl thrown into a situation she doesn’t want to be in, away from the only person she considers family. At first it’s hard for her to believe she is something special as she cannot even summon her powers but later on she discovers that there is a reason for that and she deals with it (awesome character development moment btw). I have seen a lot of hate for Mal in the fandom and I do not know why. So far I quite like him but I can’t wait to see the reason he gets so much hate. The Darkling is that typical dark, brooding handsome man that I just couldn’t seem to hate even if he wasn’t the good guy.
Now…..a love triangle. I think I’ve said it enough times that I don’t enjoy them but honestly you can’t really avoid them when reading a book that has romance in it. For this one it wasn’t that big of a deal but I think it becomes something important later on soo i’m just gonna deal with it. At this point I don’t know who to choose honestly I like them both but since I accidentally spoiled myself on Tumblr I know that there is a possible third love interest so let’s see how that goes (now you’re spoiled too).
The world was full of interesting Russian folklore and random words from the language which was quite fun to read through. As for the world building though, I wasn’t too impressed. It felt kind of unfinished but I am expecting it to get better in the next book. Overall it’s not something new for a debut novel.
Something I really enjoy in a book is when it has a map in it. I just really love them. And this one is so cool in my opinion. I love the little artwork on the side.

I really enjoyed reading this book and I am so curious about what’s going to happen next. Totally recommend it to fantasy lovers and to anyone looking for something different.

Have you read the book? What do you think?

Ash Princess

Ash Princess

Author: Laura Sebastian
Genre: Fantasy, Young-Adult
Category: Trilogy (Book 1 of 3)
Number of pages: 432

Started: 17/09/2018 – Finished: 24/09/2018
Rating: ****/5

Description (Goodreads):
Theodosia was six when her country was invaded and her mother, the Fire Queen, was murdered before her eyes. On that day, the Kaiser took Theodosia’s family, her land, and her name. Theo was crowned Ash Princess–a title of shame to bear in her new life as a prisoner.

For ten years Theo has been a captive in her own palace. She’s endured the relentless abuse and ridicule of the Kaiser and his court. She is powerless, surviving in her new world only by burying the girl she was deep inside.

Then, one night, the Kaiser forces her to do the unthinkable. With blood on her hands and all hope of reclaiming her throne lost, she realizes that surviving is no longer enough. But she does have a weapon: her mind is sharper than any sword. And power isn’t always won on the battlefield.

For ten years, the Ash Princess has seen her land pillaged and her people enslaved. That all ends here.

I’m going to say what everyone else is saying – I’ve read this plot before. Rightful queen wants to reclaim her throne, evil ruler and a love triangle.
It does have it’s own story. This book is an entertaining , easy and quick read. It has some darker aspects like slavery, racism, torture, graphic abuse and rape. These thing are pretty much what drive the story.
I enjoyed how Theo played the stupid princess when she really wasn’t. And watching her manipulate people was quite enjoyable. Trough-out the book I asked these questions so many times: ‘Do I like this character do I not? Is this character good or not?’ and it was such a driving factor to see who will betray who in the end or will they be able to betray each other at all.
The love triangle was entertaining because sometimes you wonder is it it actually a triangle or is Theo that good of an actress.
The political part was well written as well.
Overall it’s not a new plot, not a new world, which I understand as it is a debut novel, but it is good in it’s own way and it was a page-turner. I will follow the next books for sure.
There were many times I compared it to Red queen and not so often to Throne of glass. So if you enjoyed those I’d recommend you check this one out!

Have you read this book? What did you think?
